Suzanne Holme – Member

Suzanne Holme (van der Merwe) is a Member at Nubis Tax, an admitted attorney and Chartered Tax Adviser with more than 30 years’ experience in tax and legal practice, including 28 years at Deloitte.

Suzanne began her career with legal articles at the Legal Aid Board, before moving into tax at the South African Revenue Service’s VAT Rulings division. She joined Deloitte in 1997, where she was admitted as a partner (director) in 2007 and went on to build and help lead the firm’s VAT practice across South Africa. Suzanne worked in the Deloitte Indirect Tax teams in London, Zurich, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which included assistance with implementing VAT in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

In 2026, Suzanne joined Nubis Tax to bring her specialist VAT expertise into this exceptional and niche firm.

Today, Suzanne advises clients on VAT advisory, dispute resolution, ruling applications, VAT controls, the tax sensitisation of ERP systems, and electronic invoicing, drawing on experience across public entities, educational institutions, transport & logistics, consumer, mining, manufacturing, oil & gas and insurance, to name a few. She has made submissions to National Treasury on proposed VAT Act amendments, securing a change to the Act’s treatment of International Grant Funding and services by Intermediaries. She is a recognised speaker at industry forums including the Tax Indaba, panel discussions under the Deloitte Chair in International and EU Tax Law at the University of Leuven and External Examiner for VAT dissertations: Masters Students at South African Universities.

Suzanne holds a BCom (Accounting and Law), an LLB and an LLM in Taxation, and is a Chartered Tax Adviser and admitted attorney.
